Using Google Assistant Voice Search on Chrome for Android Is Easy. Here’s How You Can Do It

The previously used voice typing technology will soon be replaced with Google Assistant as Google puts all its efforts for the same. After releasing Google Assistant-powered voice typing for Pixel’s Gboard users, Google has now begun testing the functionality of Google Assistant for voice searches on the Android version of Chrome.

How to Use Google Assistant for Voice Search in Chrome’s Android Platform

Google hasn’t made the Assistant-based voice search available for use by default, as it is still under testing phase for Chrome. However, with the help of the steps mentioned in this article, we have discussed how the feature can be enabled at present. We have also stated the differences between the previous and this new mechanism for voice searches.

Enable Google Assistant in Chrome for Voice Searches

The Google Assistant for voice search can be enabled on Chrome, with the steps mentioned below:

  1. First, you need to open the Chrome browser on your Android device and go to chrome://flags.

  2. Further, navigate for “Omnibox Assistant Voice Search” from the search box. You can also paste the address mentioned below in the address bar of Chrome:

chrome://flags/#omnibox-assistant-voice-search

  • Click on the drop-down list, and enable the above-mentioned Chrome flag. You may now select for the microphone, either colorful or a grey icon.

  • You may opt for your favorite one and restart the browser.

Old Google Voice Input Typing vs. Google Assistant Voice Typing

We hope that now you can easily enable the newly introduced Assistant-powered voice search for Chrome on your Android device. Coming to the difference between the old Google voice input to the newly introduced Assistant-powered voice typing, you would notice that you will be taken to Google Assistant when you tap on the microphone icon on the homepage. One significant advantage of Google Assistant is that all the smart home controls can be accessed directly from Chrome. It may not be as convenient as saying ‘Hey Google!’, but it would be of great help to the users wanting to control their smart home appliances as they will easily be able to play/pause/change music on their smart speakers, switch on/off the lights and more. The Assistant-powered voice search can easily understand and follow various languages, making it better than the previous voice input method.

So, these were the details regarding Assistant-powered Voice Search of Google for Chrome on Android. Currently, the feature is under the testing phase, and we hope to see its fully-functional version of Assistant for voice searches soon. However, it can easily be enabled with a Chrome flag and used before Google the switch gets flipped by Google.
